Jared Leclair

LPH is not a one man show…it is a group of individuals that have come together to reach a common goal: excellence in the reining horse industry! From head trainer to stall cleaner, every person on our team has an integral part in making it possible for our horses to become successful show horses. We are fortunate to have a great team of talented assistants/grooms that enable Leclair Performance Horses to train and show top quality Reining Horses.

2003

Jared Leclair and Custom Traveler
After completing the first semester of his senior year, Jared’s next move of his already promising career was accepting a training position at Quarter Mount Farm in Paxton, MA.  Owned by Steve Simon, Quarter Mount Farm was quickly gaining national recognition as the home of Custom Crome, a future NRHA million dollar sire.  As head trainer, Jared had many responsibilities while at Quarter Mount Farm.  These included all aspects of the training, showing and breeding of the horses at the farm, as well as the overall operation of this prestigious top reining facility.  Adding to his growing list of accomplishments Jared showed Steve Simon’s Custom Cappuccino to the Limited Open, Intermediate Open, and Open NERHA year end title. Jared also piloted Custom Tracker to the Reserve Championship in the Limited Open class at the 2003 All American Quarter Horse Congress.  In the three years that Jared worked at Quarter Mount Farm he says that he received a lot of valuable experience in operating a successful training and breeding program.

2004

Jared Leclair and Wowsanic
In January of 2004 the opportunity of a lifetime came to Jared in the form of a phone call placed by friend and mentor Brent Wright to Tim McQuay. Brent told Tim that he knew of a young up-and-coming trainer who was looking for a position as an assistant trainer with a top reining show barn.  That same week Tim flew Jared to Texas for an interview and hired him at the end of the first day.  Jared was excited to move to the McQuay's Stable in Tioga, Texas; the epicenter of the reining horse world.
With no time to spare, Jared got right to work learning from and showing for the McQuay’s. Aboard Brennas Golden Dunnit, Jared was reserve in the Limited Open class at the 2004 Gordyville Breeders Cup.  On his first trip to the NRBC and the NRHA Derby Jared made it to the Limited and Intermediate Open finals on Alain Longatte’s Wowsanic.

2005

Jared Leclair and Dun It In Tinseltown
2005 NRBC Res. Intermediate Champions
The pairing that would lead to many successes for Jared in the show pen came when owner David Silva and the McQuay’s decided that Jared and 2004 open futurity finalist Dun It In Tinseltown might make a winning pair. The 2005 NRBC was Jared and “Tinsel’s” first show as a team.  Working together they posted a 219 in the first go and made it back to the Intermediate Open finals. In the finals they took home the reserve championship by marking a 220 1/2 earning them over $16,000.  Their next show was the 2005 NRHA Derby where they made it to the Intermediate Finals.  As the 2006 show season began, Jared found himself raising the bar by piloting “Tinsel” to his first ever Open Derby Finals at the All American Reining Classic in Las Vegas, NV.

2006 NRBC Intermediate Champions
Little did Jared know what was in store for him at their next show, the 2006 National Reining Breeders Classic.  Jared and “Tinsel” qualified for the Intermediate Open Derby Finals marking the same score that had qualified them the prior year.  However, in the finals, the pair put it all together by marking a 222 1⁄2 topping the Intermediate Open Division and taking home the championship.  For their efforts, Jared and “Tinsel” won in excess of $28,000.00 in cash and prizes. Tim McQuay soon realized that Jared was not only a talented showman, but also a talented Non Pro instructor.  While at McQuay Stables Jared coached Non Pros enabling them to capture several titles including the Limited Non Pro championship at the 2005 NRHA Futurity, the 2006 NRBC Limited Non Pro championship, Reserve Intermediate Non Pro and Novice Horse Non Pro championships at the 2006 NRBC, the Intermediate & Limited Non Pro championships at the 2006 NRHA Derby and the Novice Horse championship at the 2006 Futurity.

Jared’s talent and dedication, as well as the opportunity to ride phenomenal horses under the guidance of Tim & Colleen McQuay, gave him the edge he needed to become a successful showman. Jared is grateful for the opportunity he had to be a part of the McQuay team.

2008
There are many words that could describe 2008 for Jared and Leclair Performance Horses’ Team such as incredible, outstanding, tremendous and unbelievable.  However the word that most aptly describes the accomplishments of Leclair Performance Horses in 2008 is EXCELLENCE!  L.P.H., as was stated from its establishment; is committed to excellence in the reining horse industry and as 2008 proves is successfully reaching its goal.  Entering only its second year in business, L.P.H. quickly gained recognition as one of the top reining operations with Jared in the saddle. LPH’s first show of 2008 was the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo where Jared & Memorable Affair set the tone for the entire year by taking home the Open Championship. Jared was the Int. Open Derby Reserve Champion at the Cowboy Capital Classic aboard Guaranteed By Amos and at the Gordyville Breeders Classic aboard Custom Nifty Nic. At the NRBC Jared qualified two horses in the Classic Open & Int. Open division finals.  For his first time competing in the Open finals Jared rode Rootin Tootin Dunit and Waves In The Bay.

Just a few weeks later Jared & Rootin Tootin Dunit qualified for the Open & Int. Open finals at the NRHA Derby.  In the finals “Rooty” & Jared wowed the judges and became the Intermediate Open Derby Co-Champions winning one year’s use of a Cimmarron 3 Horse trailer as well as several other prizes. As the Derby ended futurity season began which gave Jared the chance to see how the 3yr. olds from his program would perform.

Jared Leclair and Electric Code
The first outing for the 3yr.olds would be the RMRHA Summer Slide where Jared again qualified two horses for the finals which where Electric Code & Good Time Whiz Girl.  Jared took top honors by capturing the Open, Stallion Stakes Open & Int. Open Futurity Co-Championship with Electric Code.  Adam Hendrickson, with whom Jared tied to win all three divisions would later join Leclair Performance Horses as his assistant.  Also at the RMRHA show Jared rode Waves In The Bay to earn the Open, Stallion Stakes Open & Int. Open Derby Championship. At the Scottsdale Classic Futurity Jared & Good Time Whiz Girl tied to win the Reserve Championship in the Int. Open Division. Riding Super Chic Olena; his assistant Stefan’s horse, Jared was Reserve Champion in the Open & Int. Open divisions at the International Reining Festival’s Futurity. For everyone that isn’t familiar with the SWRHA Futurity it is where the best of the best take their 3yr olds before the “big” Futurity to see where they stand.

Jared & Electric Code where outstanding in their performance and bested over 80 entries to win the Open & Int. Open SWRHA Futurity by posting a 226.  For their efforts Jared & “Cody” won over $33,000.00, a saddle, golf cart and other great prizes. At the inaugural APHA Fall Championship Jared was Reserve Champion on Tequilas Smokin Pearl in the 3yr. old Reining Challenge. Jared’s first trip to the AQHA World Show proved to be a good one.  He qualified horses in both the Jr. & Sr. Reining taking Stoned Chick to the finals in the Sr. and Rootin Tootin Dunit to a fourth place finish in the Jr. division.Anyone that is familiar with the Reining Horse Industry knows that the NRHA Futurity is the most prestigious event of the year.  For Jared it represents another chance to make his dreams become reality.

At the 2008 NRHA Futurity Jared took another step towards making his dream of winning the NRHA Futurity come true.  Because of his consistent performances throughout the grueling go-rounds on both Electric Code & Good Time Whiz Girl, Jared got to participate in the presentation of the Open Futurity Finalists for the first time in his career. The night of the Futurity finals would become one of the most cherished moments of his life.

Jared Leclair and Electric Code, 2008 Int. Open Futurity Champions

Jared could not contain his delight after blasting into the pen on Electric Code and nailing their first stop after which he broke out into a huge grin.  Knowing that a lot was at stake he and “Cody” finished their pattern with determination as the massive crowd cheered them on. After completing their pattern and hearing “the score for Jared Leclair & Electric Code…225, Jared knew that he had just captured the Int. Open Futurity Championship.  For their score of 225 Jared & “Cody” ended up third in the Open and took home over $127,000.00, one year’s use of a Cimarron 3 Horse trailer, a saddle, and several other wonderful prizes. It was the perfect ending to an amazing year!As the night drew to a close Jared was approached by an Open Finals judge that asked him “so how did it feel to be sitting in the middle of the pen with a 71.5 after your first stop?”Jared said his response was “excellent”; the word that is quickly becoming synonymous with Jared and Leclair Performance Horses!

Jared’s talent and dedication, as well as, the opportunity to ride phenomenal horses has given him the edge he needs to be a successful showman. His success in the show pen earned him the distinction of top Intermediate Open Rider as well as the 5th ranked Open rider over all of the 2008 show season.

Leclair says, “he feels privileged to be a part of the reining horse industry and is excited about sharing his knowledge so that others may reach their reining goals.”
